THE ARTIST
Soul Spice Photography is owned and operated by Aria Martin-Henderson. Although she may have taken the “scenic route” to her destination as a professional photographer, her passion for photography started many years before she was “shutterbuggin’”. Her father was a visual artist; his mediums being paint, wood and power tools. Her mother was a writer, an actress, a singer, an ink and pastel artist and a true free spirit. Aria’s artistic creativity and destiny were imprinted on her genes.
Always passionate about capturing the visual in any way she could, Aria learned at an early age that the talents of her parents were not exactly hers... drawing, painting, sketching... they eluded her, but she burned to create lasting images. Ancient photos fascinated her as did antique cameras and equipment. In her early twenties she rented a room in her Toronto apartment to a friend who was down on his luck. Broke, he offered in exchange what was to become Aria’s first SLR camera... A Canon Rebel 350 35mm film unit. Her second camera came from a pawn shop in Las Vegas... again, a Canon. With the new innovations in Digital SLR’s she is proud to still operate Canon equipment but has expanded to also include some Sony family members.
With a unique style that is unpretentious, informal, creative and sometimes unconventional, Aria is dedicated to capturing the celebration of life... Whether photographing a child, a ceremony or an intimate event she prefers to capture the genuine moments that encompass the moment as opposed to “staging” and posing the people and emotions involved. These will be your memories for life indelibly, and they should be honest and true.
Aria loves to learn and grow and her dedication to continuous learning is evident. Through courses, workshops and virtual industry “roundtable” meetings with other international industry professionals she keeps her creative juices flowing and the innovative results are spectacular!
